The next movie in Michael Bay’s Transformers film franchise has received an official title. Paramount Pictures has revealed, via the above title treatment and below video, that the fifth installment will be called Transformers: The Last Knight.
Although production is set to get underway next month, few details have been released about the film. We do know Mark Wahlberg (Daddy’s Home, Deepwater Horizon) will once again lead the cast, reprising his role as Cade Yeager from Transformers: Age of Extinction. Isabela Moner (“100 Things to Do Before High School”) is set as the female lead, playing a character named Izabella. Jerrod Carmichael (“The Carmichael Show”) is on board in an unspecified role, and Stephen Merchant (“The Office”) and Jean Dujardin (The Monuments Men) have been rumored, but not confirmed, to have roles as well.
Earlier this year, Paramount announced that it will be releasing a new Transformers movie every year until at least 2019. Transformers: The Last Knight will arrive in theaters on June 23, 2017, with the studio slating Transformers 6 for June 8, 2018, and Transformers 7 for June 28, 2019.
Bay, who helped launch the franchise back in 2007 when he directed and produced the first film, will return to direct Transformers: The Last Knight, however, he has been quoted as saying it will be his last. “I still have a great time,” he told Rolling Stone in January. “It’s fun to do a movie that 100 million people will see. But this is the last one. I have to pass the reins to someone else. It’s time to move on. One more.”
