After choosing to forgo the San Diego Comic-Con, 20th Century Fox is rolling into New York Comic Con and the studio is of course bringing some tentpoles with them. Chief among them is the video game adaptation Assassin’s Creed and War for the Planet of the Apes, the followup to 2014’s well received box office hit, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
While we wait for whatever might make its way online from either of the film’s presentations this weekend, War for the Planet of the Apes has released a teaser of sorts with an online video of a digital billboard that can be seen in New York’s Time Square. Check it out below.
In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.
Andy Serkis is once again back in the motion-capture suit for the role of Caeser and Judy Greer returns as Cornelia, with Woody Harrelson portraying the Colonel. Dawn co-writer and director Matt Reeves also returned to helm and pen the script alongside Mark Bomback (Total Recall, The Wolverine).
War for the Planet of the Apes is set to bow in theaters on July 14, 2017.
