David Oyelowo (The Butler, Selma) and Rosamund Pike (Jack Reacher, Gone Girl) lead the cast of A United Kingdom, the upcoming historical drama from Belle director Amma Asante, which has released its first international trailer.

Adapted by Guy Hibbert (Eye in the Sky), based on the book “Colour Bar” by Susan Williams, A United Kingdom tells the true story of Seretse Khama (Oyelowo), King of Bechuanaland (modern Botswana), and Ruth Williams (Pike), the London office worker he married in 1948 in the face of fierce opposition from their families and the British and South African governments.

Seretse and Ruth defied family, apartheid and empire – their love triumphed over every obstacle flung in their path and in so doing they transformed their nation and inspired the world.

Rounding out the film’s cast is Jack Davenport (Pirates of the Caribbean), Terry Pheto (Mandela), Tom Felton (Harry Potter), Arnold Oceng (Adulthood), Jack Lowden (’71) and Laura Carmichael (“Downton Abbey”).

A United Kingdom will make its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September followed by its European premiere at the BFI London Film Festival in October. A theatrical release in the UK is scheduled for November 25th, while a domestic release date yet to be announced.
